Day Sixteen

Being in minus figures feels bad, hopefully today's card will remedy that.

I went for the classic turquoise card that I've neglected recently.

Yes! £5

Goodbye minus figures!

Expenditure: £16
Winnings: £19

A loss today sees me back in minus figures. That's not a fun place to be, but I'm feeling optimistic.

Arg. -£1 it is.

Expenditure: £15
Winnings: £14
Profit: -£1

Wednesday, 14 December 2011

Day Fourteen

Today is a big day. If I don't win, my profit drops to £0. I'll be right back where I was 14 days ago, though saying that, I would never have experienced the soaring highs of winning four times, not to mention the numerous crushing lows of losing £1 to a silly piece of card.

Bah, no prize.

Back to the £0 mark.

Expenditure: £14
Winnings: £14
Profit: £0

Tuesday, 13 December 2011

Day Thirteen

I've been dreading day 13, I'm pretty much certain that there will be no prize today.

£1! Amazing
Of course there's nothing unlucky about the number 13. It's just a number.

Expenditure: £13
Winnings: £14
Profit: £1

Monday, 12 December 2011

Day Twelve.

Part of me is still hoping for a prize from the Money Tree one day.

Today is not that day.

I wish I would win again, winning feels rather good.

Expenditure: £12
Winnings: £13
Profit: £1

Sunday, 11 December 2011

Day Eleven.

Last night I won £10 on the lottery! So I'm hoping that it's the start of a lucky streak.

Sadly, I'm not 'Rolling In It'. No prize.

After a couple of wins, I'm almost expecting to win every day now.
Though I stumbled upon a website offering a list of scratchcard 'tips', one such gem was 'Scared money never wins. Your positive attitude matters every time!'
Sadly my positive attitude is waning. Though I'm not sure I have 'Scared Money' just yet, whatever that is.

Expenditure: £11
Winnings: £13
Profit: £2

Day Ten

In a rather festive mood again today, decided to go for the jolly 'Happy Christmas' card that has previously given me no prize.
Buying different cards is exciting.

Yes! £1

My profit remains at £3, Merry Christmas!

Expenditure: £10
Winnings: £13
Profit: £3

Day Nine

After yesterday's magnificent win, today I feel confident. Day 9 and at the moment I'm up by £4, part of me thought that by now I'd be -£9, weeping in a foetal postition and neglecting this blog. Instead I feel optimistic for the future, this will be an interesting journey.
Today I went for the 'Money Tree' card.

Back to reality.
No prize.

At least my profit is still in positive figures, let's hope it lasts.

Expenditure: £9
Winnings: £12
Profit: £3

The following this has gained has been overwhelming! Quite a few people have messaged me requesting a Facebook page, so I've just created one, Click Here and 'Like' away!

Day Eight

I've been buying the same turquoise scratchcard for the past three days. I was faithful to the card that had given me the glorious £2 on Day One. At the suggestion of my dear friend @jayreavy, today I branched out and went for a 'Rolling In It!' card. There's a happy pig on it. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

YEAH! The little pig head just got me £10! I'm back in positive figures, super!

Expenditure: £8
Winnings: £12
Profit: £4

If you're interested, there's a YouTube channel of my scratchcard attempts. To be honest, it's mainly just clips of me getting excited, then being disappointed.

Day 8 - 1,200 hits. This is madness, thanks again for following!

Day Seven

I feel pretty sure that this blog is slowing taking over my life.
Last night I dreamt that I won £10 on a scratchcard, maybe it was a premonition.

No prize.

No premonition either, what was that dream all about? My brain is an idiot.

So now I'm £5 down, but it's only been a week, I'm still only 1.9% into this whole process. Things are bound to pick up, aren't they?

Expenditure: £7
Winnings: £2
Profit: -£5

Day Six

Today has been a great day. This morning I discovered that my Master's Thesis has been given an 'A' grade by my supervisor. This could be my lucky day.

Note the sad face in the background.
No prize.
What makes it worse is that for a a few seconds I was certain I'd won, all those 1's and 0's blended into a horrible misleading binary blob.

On a side note, even though the blog's only been up for around six days now, somehow it's had over 700 hits. Insane. Thanks so much for following.

Wish me luck.

Expenditure: £6
Winnings: £2
Profit: -£4

Monday, 5 December 2011

Day Five

After not being able to find anywhere that sold scratchcards in Gretna, I ended up picking one up from my local corner shop. So if I don't win it's because it's not from Gretna.

No Prize.
Boo

Though I suppose the odds of winning a prize on the standard lottery scratchcard are 1 in 4.90. So after winning once in five days, I'm pretty much on track.
However, I'm still in minus figures, I'm down three beautiful pounds, so forget the odds, odds are for losers.

I want to defy the odds.

Expenditure: £5
Winnings: £2
Profit: -£3

Sunday, 4 December 2011

Day Four

In Durham today visiting my brother, picked up a Money Tree.

No prize. Stupid Tree.

I'm beginning to hate this.

Expenditure: £4
Winnings: £2
Profit: -£2

Saturday, 3 December 2011

Day Three

After learning my lesson yesterday, today I ignored the jolly festive offering and opted for the old faithful National Lottery card that had given me my £2.00 on Day One.

No prize.

I'm now in minus figures, why oh why did I think this was a good idea?

Expenditure: £3
Winnings: £2
Profit: -£1

In other news, I found this story yesterday. It's incredible.

Friday, 2 December 2011

Day Two

In a rather festive mood today so bought a cheerful Christmas themed card.

No prize.

Balls.

This scratchcard malarkey is harder than I thought.

Expenditure: £2
Winnings: £2
Profit: £0

Day One

Day One. First scratchcard. Scary

Woohaa
Success! I won £2!

This whole scratchcard thing is easy. This year is going to be fun.

Expenditure: £1
Winnings: £2

A Scratchcard A Day - Introduction

This blog exists because of this thing.

Last week I was in Ireland visiting my girlfriend and her being the awesome, kindhearted, lovely etc. person she is, she bought us a National Lottery scratchcard each. We sat in the car and scratched away, she won nada, I won €4. BOOYAH! I went back to the shop, claimed my prize, kept €2 and bought two more cards. Again we sat in the car and scratched, sadly, yet again she won nothing, but on the upside I won another €4! This was awesome.

I decided against claiming and buying another two tickets, mainly because the man in the shop didn't seem to like me very much when I'd claimed the first time, also I was worried about becoming trapped into a cycle of constant buying and scratching. Walking away now I was €6 better off. Partytime.

So I came home and had a dangerous thought, what would happen if I bought a scratchcard every day for a year? Would my winnings surpass my expenditure? Or should I just take £365 and set it on fire instead? Either way, it's something to do, and it can't hurt (unless the fire plan goes ahead).

I'm feeling lucky.
